Daryl J. Faulkner, President & Chief Executive Officer, Digene

Daryl J. Faulkner is President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Digene. Previously, Mr. Faulkner held leadership positions at Invitrogen Corp., where he most recently served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Strategic Business Units, with primary responsibility for establishing and executing a roadmap for growth. Mr. Faulkner has a proven track record building business success. As a senior executive at Invitrogen, his leadership was instrumental in strategic development and tactical execution that more than doubled the company’s size via strategic acquisitions, in-licensing and internal product development. During his eight-year tenure at Invitrogen, he also held positions as General Manager and Senior Vice President for Europe, Senior Vice President of International Operations, General Manager and Vice President of Europe, and Corporate Vice President for Human Resources. Prior to Invitrogen, Mr. Faulkner served for 15 years at Abbott Laboratories Inc., holding positions of increasing responsibility in manufacturing operations and plant management. He received a B.S. in industrial relations from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and an M.A. in business management from Webster University.

Ed Kania, Managing Partner and Chairman, Flagship Ventures

Mr. Kania has 21 years of experience in the venture capital industry. Prior to co-founding Flagship Ventures in 1999, he spent 14 years as General Partner of OneLiberty Ventures and of its predecessor firm, Morgan, Holland Ventures. From 1983-1984, he served as an investment officer at First Capital Corporation of Boston, the venture capital subsidiary of Bank of Boston, and, previously, as Research Associate at Harvard Business School and as General Manager at J. Cunningham, Inc. Throughout his professional career, Ed has operated both as an investor and as an active partner to entrepreneurs in company building. His direct investment experience covers over 100 companies. Mr. Kania is currently a Director of Flagship portfolio companies including Abla-Tx, Acceleron Pharma, Aspect Medical (Nasdaq: ASPM), DataCore Software, Epitome Biosystems, EXACT Sciences (Nasdaq: EXAS), Interactive Supercomputing, Nanostream and Pervasis Therapeutics, and is Chairman of the Boards of TransMedics and VisEn Medical. He is a frequent speaker on venture capital and entrepreneurship. Mr. Kania earned his undergraduate degree in physics from Dartmouth College and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
